Professional Experience

Lisa Shuman is Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) and Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC), qualified to provide compliance advisory services to a variety of health care organizations.  Ms. Shuman has experience working with health systems, hospitals, physician practices, managed care organizations, durable medical equipment suppliers, federally qualified health centers, and long-term care organizations.  Her work has included corporate compliance program development and implementation, compliance program and HIPAA privacy program effectiveness evaluation, compliance and privacy risk assessment, and policy and procedure development.  Further, she develops and provides compliance education, including general compliance/code of conduct training, and HIPAA privacy and security training.

Recently, she has provided interim compliance officer and HIPAA privacy officer services in physician practice, hospital, and managed care settings. In these roles, she conducts interviews and investigations, utilizes incident management systems, implements corrective action plans, completes breach risk assessments and reports to the government, provides education and works collaboratively with the client’s compliance and legal staff.

Ms. Shuman also leads regulatory research in a range of areas, including federal health care programs (e.g., Medicare and Medicaid), federal and state health care laws and regulations (e.g., Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law, Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and the HITECH Act), and federal and industry guidelines (e.g., the Office of Inspector General Compliance Program Guidance and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines).

Previous Work Experience

Prior to joining Strategic Management, Ms. Shuman worked as a regional account manager for a medical and dental practice that provided care to residents in long-term care organizations. In this position, she met regularly with administrators and directors to coordinate podiatry, audiology, optometry, and dental services for residents of skilled nursing facilities throughout Southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and Rhode Island.  In addition, she interned during a graduate program at American University for the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) in Washington, DC, where she provided support to the performance measurement department.
