Sharmi Mahajan is a Senior Regulatory Analyst with Strategic Management. Mrs. Mahajan supports the firm’s Senior and Associate Consultants with regulatory research and analysis of health laws, regulations and compliance. Her areas of focus include Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, Federal Anti-Kickback and Stark Law, DHHS OIG guidance and state health care laws and regulations. Mrs. Mahajan also provides peer review and quality assurance for the firm’s compliance publications, webinars and various client projects. Additionally, she assists Strategic Management’s executives in the development of client proposals and serves as an editor for the firm’s monthly Regulatory Report.
Mrs. Mahajan serves as adjunct faculty for the Master of Jurisprudence (MJ) in Health Law program at Loyola University School of Law. She introduces health care professionals to the legal system and legal processes, and teaches them legal writing and analysis. Mrs. Mahajan also serves as a thesis advisor in the program. Prior to joining Strategic Management, Mrs. Mahajan worked at the American College of Chest Physicians in Illinois. She served as the Senior Policy Analyst and managed the College’s Chest Medicine Affairs Committee and the Council of Governors consisting of pulmonologists and thoracic surgeons. In that capacity, Mrs. Mahajan worked with physicians to keep abreast of national and state policy, payment and reimbursement changes affecting chest medicine. She also developed policy statements and regulatory comments on behalf of the College. In previous roles, Mrs. Mahajan has worked in legal and compliance departments of private and non-profit health care companies, and in a national law firm in Toronto, Ontario. Additionally, she has experience working in a Canadian provincial health policy department.
Mrs. Mahajan obtained her Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Health Law from the Loyola University Chicago School of Law. During that time she also completed a Health Law and Policy Fellowship at the Beazley Institute for Health Law and Policy. She received her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Toronto Faculty Of Law and her Master of Public Health (MPH) from Yale University. Her undergraduate studies were completed at McMaster University in Ontario, Canada.
