2010 HCFAC Report Finds Government Recovered $4 Billion in Fraudulent Payments.
The Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Justice recently released the 2010 Health Care Fraud and Abuse Control Program (HCFAC) Report. According to the report, the HCFAC program recovered approximately $4 billion in taxpayer dollars during fiscal year 2010. The recovery amount is the largest in the program’s history and is attributed to increased enforcement efforts, including activities by the Health Care Fraud Prevention and Enforcement Action Team (HEAT) and Medicare Fraud Strike Force teams. Recovery amounts are expected to increase due to the additional resources for HCFAC activities set aside by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
