OIG Semiannual Report Results Summary Fiscal Year 2023

Key Points:

• Expected investigative recoveries of $3.16 billion
• Enforcement actions included 707 criminal, 746 civil, and 2,111 exclusions  

OIG released the 2023 Semiannual Report to Congress (April 1 to September 30), describing significant risks, problems, abuses, deficiencies, remedies, and investigative outcomes. These reports are mandated by law. The reports are intended to keep the Secretary and the Congress fully and currently informed of significant findings and recommendations by the Office of Inspector General. The summary of results for the entire fiscal year from their audits included expected Audit Recoveries of $283.5 million, Questioned Costs of $1.5 billion, and potential Savings of $47.2 million. OIG investigation results in expected investigative recoveries of $3.16 billion. As a result of the investigation, there were (a) 707 Criminal Actions taken against individuals, (b) 746 Civil Actions, and (c) 2,112 exclusions.
