OIG Issues Final Rule Permitting FFP in MFCUs Data Mining
The Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (OIG) issued a final rule to allow Federal financial participation (FFP) in State Medicaid Fraud Control Units (MFCUs) data mining activities. Under the final rule, MFCUs must meet certain requirements to receive FFP including to define the methods for coordination between the MFCU and the State Medicaid agency and provide specialized training in data mining to the MFCU employees. The OIG must also approve in advance the provisions of the MFCU data mining agreement. Upon OIG approval, the agreement lasts for 3 years.
