Angel Hoffman, RN, MSN
Angel Hoffman is a Compliance and Ethics Consultant with over 30 years of experience in Health Care Compliance and Risk Management, which includes experience with Internal Audit, Compliance and Ethics, consulting and program development for organizations nation-wide. This includes acute care hospital and physician compliance, laboratory compliance, DMEs and long term care facilities. She provides health care advisory services (e.g. regulatory compliance, HIPAA Privacy, Security and EDI, and business ethics) for compliance officers to meet the challenges in the health care industry. She has designed and conducted privacy and security risk assessments for meaningful use; worked with legal counsel on OIG and DOJ issues; experienced as a nurse legal consultant and expert witness; has directed operations and managed fiscal responsibilities for clinical and non-clinical areas; coordinated strategic planning initiatives for various services; performed research and interpreted regulations; developed compliance related education and training (live and online) and Served as a Clinical Instructor for CCAC level II and level III students. She frequently makes presentations at a number of national conferences, including the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the National HIPAA Summit and the Academic Medical Center Privacy and Security Conferences.
Ms. Hoffman’s experience with the business and administrative sides of health care, in conjunction with her clinical expertise, provides her with a unique perspective and understanding of health care, and the relationship between the clinical and business worlds. Ms. Hoffman has used this blending of knowledge and experience for strategic planning and tactical planning for compliance and corporate accountability, to improve hospital operations, for investigative purposes, and for creative and innovative problem resolution. Ms. Hoffman has worked with government agencies such as the Office of Inspector General (OIG), the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Office for Civil Rights (OCR).
She has held multiple management positions in hospital operations, including overseeing the building of a state of the art neurovascular intensive care unit for stroke patients in the early days of stroke education and prevention. She has served as Chief Compliance and Ethics Officer for a physician billing company, as well Director of Corporate Compliance at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), where she directed and managed both the Corporate Compliance and HIPAA Programs. The HIPAA Program Office achieved national recognition for its HIPAA Privacy efforts and best practices. She was responsible for development, implementation and management of the HIPAA Program Office which served as the central office for HIPAA Privacy, HIPAA EDI and HIPAA Security for UPMC entities. It was viewed as “cutting edge”. Ms. Hoffman began her career as a Registered Nurse and has expertise in: health care compliance, risk management, nurse legal consulting, development of education and training programs (including online training) and multiple clinical specialties. Her experience encompasses two large academic medical centers as well as community hospitals and physician services.
